Newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, says his recent victory in the NDC primary is a victory for everyone.

Baba Jamal was among five other candidates, including the wife of the late Ayawaso East MP, Hajia Amina Adams, who vied for the vacant seat.

The final provisional results saw Baba Jamal win with 431 votes, Hajia Amina Adam secured 399 votes, Mohammed Ramme garnered 88 votes, Dr. Yakubu Azindow had 45 votes, and Mohammed Najib got one.

Addressing the media after his slight victory, the accomplished lawyer expressed his excitement to all who stood by him throughout his two weeks of intense campaigning.

He added that the victory is a collective achievement and that his doors are open to his contestants and everyone, as he is keenly working to retain the seat for the NDC.

“First give thanks to Almighty Allah for seeing me through this hectic campaign period. It has been very difficult for me, family, and friends because of how this election went about. But today, per Allah’s grace, I’m the winner, and I thank Allah for this feat. I will also thank the excellency, friends in the media, friends, ministers, parliamentarians, and my constituents, especially my campaign team that waged a serious campaign during this two-week period. I will also want to thank my contestants that this victory is not for me alone, but for all of us,” he said.

The former Akwatia MP stated all hands should be on deck to help the flag of the party fly high.

“This is an internal election, and one must win. I invite them to join me so that together we raise the flag of NDC very high. I want to also say that my doors are open to everybody, including my colleagues who contested me because they have brought the best out of me, and I think that will help me to secure the seat for the NDC,” he concluded.

Before the primary, Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, projected a win for Hajia Amina Adams with 58% while Baba Jamal was unlikely to exceed 38%, citing recent polling data and prevailing voter trends in the constituency.

However, after his victory, President John Dramani Mahama directed the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed (Baba Jamal) from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.

While multiple candidates faced allegations of vote inducement during the primaries, President Mahama noted that Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer involved.

He emphasized that, although the NDC has launched its own investigations, decisive action was necessary to uphold the integrity of public office and ensure compliance with the government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
