Founding President of policy think-tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has launched a scathing attack on Uganda’s long-serving leader, Yoweri Museveni, describing him as “deranged” and declaring Uganda a “failed state.”
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Mr Cudjoe accused President Museveni of presiding over decades of poor governance, institutional decay and democratic backsliding, which, in his view, have left Uganda worse off despite its vast human and natural resources.
According to Mr Cudjoe, the concentration of power in the hands of one individual for nearly four decades has weakened state institutions, eroded accountability and stifled political freedoms in the East African country.
He further argued that Uganda’s challenges are emblematic of a broader problem on the African continent, where prolonged rule by entrenched leaders undermines development and fuels public discontent.
Mr Cudjoe’s comments have since generated intense debate on social media, with some users agreeing with his assessment, while others criticised the tone of his remarks and defended President Museveni’s record in areas such as security and regional diplomacy.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Ugandan government or President Museveni to the comments made by the IMANI Africa president.
