Boxing matchmaker Mubarak Yusif Nanor has pledged to offer educational scholarships to ten young boxers as part of plans to embark on a tour of boxing gyms to identify and support talented children.
According to him, the initiative forms part of his birthday slated for February 22, where the selection and support will be given to young promising boxers who find it difficult to access formal education.
He added that the process is expected to happen in the first or second week of February with a tour to boxing gyms in Accra.
Yusif stated that the selected children will receive educational scholarships, which include uniforms, their school fees, feeding, stationery, uniforms, and more.
“I will be celebrating my birthday on the 22nd of February, and as part of my celebrations, I will be taking a tour of many of the boxing gyms in Accra, Ghana, to give back to the society. I will be selecting ten (10) children from this tour to give them support regarding education,” he posted on his Facebook page.
“I want to visit many of the boxing gyms in Accra from the first or second week of February to select ten (10) children who are training as boxers but finding it difficult to get formal education,” he added.
Yusif says the act of giving back to society has been his biggest priority, as he believes every young boxer should acquire the fundamentals of education.
“I have been thinking about a way of giving back to society, and it’s not always about bringing the fans good boxing matches but also ensuring that the children learning the boxing trade get the fundamentals of education. This is just the beginning, and that is why I am choosing ten (10) children; in the future, I might add more,” he stressed.
“I will be giving these selected children an educational
scholarship that will include their school fees, feeding, stationery, uniforms, and more. The only thing I will require from the parents of the selected is for them to plan how the children will journey to school. Some parents are very willing to put their children in school but face the same challenge of funding, and I believe this will ease that burden while ensuring the safety of the children in the society,” he further explained.
He concluded that, to ensure fairness and justice, the selection will be based on merit and not just a wild goose chase.
“The selection will be merit-based and not just a wild goose chase. Some boxing coaches have candidates who they believe need this assistant, and I will sure consider that because I wouldn’t want to make the mistake of selecting someone who isn’t willing.”
Mubarak Yusif Nanor has rich experience in the boxing industry, having worked with Legacy Rise and Sports Promotion to host Darren Jason Watkins Jr., aka iShowSpeed, at the Bukom Square in January this year.
