Moliy makes history as first Ghanaian to perform at BET Awards

Ghanaian singer Moliy has made history as the first Ghanaian artiste to perform at the BET Awards. Her groundbreaking appearance took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 9, 2025.

Moliy thrilled the audience with a live performance of her hit single “Shake It to the Max (FLY),” joined on stage by collaborator Silent Addy. Together, they brought vibrant energy and flair to one of music’s biggest nights.

Viral clips circulating on social media captured Moliy in a dazzling golden-green dress. Fans were seen waving Ghanaian and Jamaican flags, adding to the electric atmosphere.

This historic performance came just weeks after her standout set at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards in Accra, further cementing her growing international presence.

Celebrating the moment online, Moliy posted a video with the caption: “When you’re the first Ghanaian to perform at the BETs.” The post quickly gained traction, drawing praise from fans and industry figures alike.

Meanwhile, Nigerian singer Ayra Starr won the Best International Act award, becoming the only African to take home a BET trophy this year. It was her first BET win, placing her alongside African greats like Burna Boy, Tems, and Tyla.

Other African nominees included Black Sherif (Ghana), Rema (Nigeria), and Uncle Waffles (Eswatini).
