The Member of Parliament for Mion, Misbahu Mahama Adams, has expressed concern over the extreme heat being experienced in the northern part of Ghana during this year’s Ramadan fasting period.
He said the intense heat in the region had worsened the already demanding conditions of fasting for many Muslims, posing serious health risks to vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those observing the fast.
Hon. Mahama Adams noted that the high temperatures were becoming increasingly unbearable and were also threatening the livelihoods of residents in the northern sector.
The Mion legislator therefore called on all stakeholders, particularly residents of Northern Ghana, to embrace tree planting initiatives as a long-term strategy to address rising temperatures and the growing threat of desertification in the area.
He emphasised that sustained afforestation efforts would help improve environmental conditions, reduce heat intensity, and protect communities from the adverse effects of climate change.
