A concerned citizen and observer of Ghana’s political landscape based in the Republic of Ireland, Amofa Baffoe has cautioned the President Mahama, Attorney-General and NDC communicated to not allow themselves to be drawn into the unfolding saga involving the suspended Chief Justice.

In a statement copied Awake News, Mr. Amofa Baffoe said, “the latest calls by Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin for the Attorney-General and the President to publicly respond to the claims made by the suspended Chief Justice are not borne out of a genuine quest for transparency.”

According to him, Mr. Afenyo-Markin’s call is rather a “strategic diversions—part of a trap to drag opposition voices, especially the NDC, into a fight that was neither started nor shaped by them.”

For him, the issues surrounding the CJ removal “is not the NDC’s war. It is a power struggle within the architecture of a government that has systematically weakened independent institutions. The Judiciary, the Executive, and their appendages must answer for their own contradictions.”

“Resist all bait to comment prematurely or emotionally on the matter. Avoid legitimizing a failing system by appearing to take sides in this internal wrangling.” – Mr. Baffoe said

He has since urged the government and ruling National Democratic Congress to “Redirect national focus to the core issues of economic hardship, widespread corruption, unemployment, and democratic decline.”

“Maintain strategic silence and focus on preparing for governance, not on providing commentary that may be twisted for propaganda. At this stage, any attempt to meddle in or sensationalize this matter will not serve the cause of accountability. It will only offer the opposition the opportunity to nurture and grow public frustration.” – He added

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is facing an investigative committee following a three petitions seeking for her removal from office.

The suspended CJ took to the press last week to make the contents of the petitions public contrary to the rules governing petitions regarding Article 146 office holders removal. She also levels several allegations against the government during the press conference for which Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markins is calling on the President and the Dr. Ayine to respond.
