The Minority in Parliament has called for the immediate evacuation of Ghanaians stranded in Israel and Iran. Reports suggest nearly 1,000 citizens are stuck in Israel after border closures triggered by escalating Middle East tensions.
In a strong statement, the Minority also expressed concern about displaced Ghanaians in Iran. They warned that ongoing missile attacks pose a serious threat to their safety. “This is a disturbing lapse in the government’s response,” the statement said. “Authorities ignored early warnings and failed to act swiftly.”
Samuel Jinapor, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, criticized the government’s slow reaction. He said it showed inefficiency and poor leadership in a time of crisis.
Demands for Government Action
The Minority urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to:
- Activate all diplomatic and emergency channels
- Coordinate closely with embassies and international partners
- Develop a comprehensive evacuation plan
They emphasized that protecting Ghanaian lives must take priority over bureaucratic processes. “The safety of our people abroad cannot wait,” they stressed. “Every passing hour raises the risk for those trapped in the conflict.”
The statement concluded with a demand for immediate, bold action. “Government must act now decisively and without delay.”
