Minority urges Mahama to address Chief Justice’s allegations

The Minority in Parliament is demanding immediate public statements from President John Mahama and Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine in response to explosive claims made by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

At a press conference on Wednesday, June 25, the Chief Justice alleged procedural breaches, human rights violations, and what she described as a coordinated plot to oust her from office without cause. Her remarks were the first public response to three petitions calling for her removal.

In a swift rebuttal, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu labeled her comments “most regrettable” but reaffirmed the President’s commitment to the rule of law and constitutional order.

However, Minority MPs say that’s not enough.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah criticized the President and Attorney General for their continued silence 48 hours after the Chief Justice’s remarks.

“The nation deserves clarity. Both the President and the Attorney General must directly respond to the serious allegations raised,” he insisted.

The Minority’s call intensifies pressure on the Mahama administration to address public concerns surrounding judicial independence and transparency amid the ongoing investigation.
