Parliament was thrown into drama on Thursday, July 24, when the Minority Caucus walked out minutes before the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review was delivered by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The walkout, led by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was in protest over the refusal of the Speaker to allow an immediate discussion on electoral violence that allegedly marred the Ablekuma North rerun.
“We cannot be part of the presentation of the budget, and to that extent, we are exiting Parliament,” Annoh-Dompreh announced on the floor.
Speaker Alban Bagbin urged the group to defer their concerns to the scheduled day for debate on the matter, stating the House must adhere to its agenda.
Despite this, the Minority MPs exited the chamber, leaving the Majority side to proceed with the Finance Minister’s presentation.
Political Tensions Escalate
The incident highlights deepening tensions in Parliament, as the opposition continues to raise issues about the government’s handling of election-related violence and governance.
This is not the first time the Minority has staged such a protest in recent years, as disagreements over procedural fairness and national issues have often led to confrontational scenes in the chamber.
