A delegation from the Minority Caucus in Parliament led by leader Alexander Afenyo-Markins on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the newly-elected National Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at his residence in Accra.
The formal visit was to officially congratulate him on winning the NPP’s national presidential primary election last Saturday.
The visit was also to reaffirm the team’s unflinching loyalty to his vision as the NPP hopes to regain power in 2028.
According to Afenyo-Markins, he emphasized that there is the need for unity, collective leadership, and a firm commitment to align our parliamentary work with his strategic direction.
Adding that, with renewed direction and purpose, the team pledges to resolve to work together, grow the party’s numbers, and secure victory in 2028.
At the end of the NPP presidential primary election, former Vice President Dr. Bawumia polled 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 percent of the total valid votes cast.
His closest contender, businessman and former Member of Parliament for Assin North Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, placed second with 46,594 votes (23.76 percent), while former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong followed with 36,303 votes (18.53 percent).
Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum obtained 1,999 votes (1.02 percent), with former party General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong trailing with 402 votes (0.21 percent).
A breakdown of the results shows Dr. Bawumia recording strong performances in key regions. He polled 19,700 votes in the Ashanti Region and 19,820 votes in the Greater Accra Region, alongside notable margins in other traditional strongholds and swing regions.
Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Ahmed Jerry Shuaib; MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh; Gloria Owusu, MP for Drobo; Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase Ayirebi; Kwabena Okyere-Darkoh Mensah, MP for Takoradi; Michael Okyere-Baafi, MP for New Juaben South, among others, were present at the gathering.
