President John Dramani Mahama says plans are underway to construct two new military barracks in Ajumako in the Central Region and Dambai in the Oti Region, respectively.
According to President Mahama while addressing parliament during the State of Nation Address (SONA), the project will address emerging security concerns and strengthen the presence of the state in these areas.
He stressed that it will further retooling efforts, where agreements have been signed to procure and deliver 4 brand new Eurocopter helicopters and one jet for the Air Force aimed at replacing the aging fleets and modernizing our air capabilities.
President Mahama noted that the Ghana Armed Forces is carrying out a thorough overhaul of previous grounded aircraft, which involves replacing essential components and bringing them back to service.
He added that it aims to quickly restore their operational readiness and maximize their fleet’s availability.
President Mahama mentioned that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will be equipped with 50 new vehicles to enhance mobility and boost troop morale.
It forms part of a broader program to retool the military and improve logistics across the services.
