Parliament paid solemn tribute to the late former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, in an emotional sitting marked by reflections on his life and service to the nation.

The First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, who was in the chair, led the House to observe a minute of silence in memory of the late MP, as Members honoured his contributions to public life and national development.

The tribute followed a statement delivered by the current MP for Tamale Central, Hon. Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu, who described his predecessor as more than a public servant, portraying him as a symbol of principled leadership and integrity.

According to Prof. Alidu, Dr. Murtala stood as a beacon during challenging times, inspiring many who felt uncertain about the future and demonstrating that honour and sincerity still had a place in governance.

He noted that the late statesman’s presence gave hope to citizens and colleagues alike, reinforcing the belief that integrity in public life remained achievable.

Prof. Alidu further confessed that assuming the role once occupied by Dr. Murtala was both humbling and daunting.

“It was not about replacing a man but about continuing a mission. His story was not one of power but of purpose. And though he is gone, the path he lit remains visible,” he stated.

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, who also served as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, was widely remembered for his dedication to service, advocacy, and commitment to national progress.

Members across the political divide joined in honouring his legacy, describing his life as one marked by purpose, courage, and unwavering devotion to the people he served.
