The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), in partnership with the Ghana Prisons Service and Aboboyaa Company Ltd., has launched the “Capital Behind Bars” initiative at MASLOC’s Head Office in Accra.
The programme is designed to equip selected inmates with practical skills in the repair and maintenance of tricycles, popularly known as “aboboyaa,” as part of efforts to prepare them for successful reintegration into society upon completion of their sentences.
The launch brought together key stakeholders, including MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Madam Abigail Elorm Mensah; Chief of Staff Julius Debrah; Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie; and Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
Organisers say the initiative seeks to provide inmates with employable skills and access to economic opportunities, enabling them to rebuild their lives after incarceration while contributing productively to national development.
The “Capital Behind Bars” programme forms part of broader efforts to promote rehabilitation through vocational training, reduce recidivism, and support inclusive economic empowerment by linking correctional reform with entrepreneurship and microfinance support.
