The Ghana Police have arrested the man seen in a viral video assaulting his naked wife in an open compound of family residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.

The middle-aged suspect, John Odartey Lamtey is in custody for investigation and possible prosecution.

The said video went viral today, which appeared to have been recorded by the suspect’s tenant who alleged that the suspect has always been abusing the wife.

According to Police statement today, “Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant was rescued to ensure her safety.”

“Efforts are underway to locate and ensure the safety of the wife who had fled the scene before the Police arrived.” – the statement added

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection issued a press statement condemning the act.

MINISTRY OF GENDER, CHILDREN, AND SOCIAL PROTECTION CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON A WOMAN IN A VIRAL VIDEO
The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MOGCSP) has taken notice of a disturbing video circulating on social media in which a man reported to be a landlord is seen violently assaulting a woman, alleged to be his wife.

The Ministry wishes to state that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances. We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victims’ rights, and it’s highly punishable by law.

The Minister has also reached out to the Ghana Police Service to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted and justice is served. We also encourage eyewitnesses with vital information to assist law enforcement agencies immediately.

Domestic and Sexual Based Violence is a national concern, and therefore, we urge the public to report such incidents as soon as possible.

We reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigors of the law.

The Ministry urges the public to always remain vigilant and report all suspected cases of any form of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800-111-222 or the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope call centre on 0800-800-800 /0800-900-900 or the nearest police station.
