Mahama’s gov’t prioritizes public image, not real solutions – Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B and serving as the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has delivered a blistering assessment of President John Dramani Mahama’s early months in office.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Nana B said he anticipated that the NDC would underperform, but he did not expect signs of disappointment to emerge so soon.

He criticized the government for backtracking on promises, highlighting the worsening environmental crisis, especially the drying up of water bodies and rising pollution, as areas where the NDC has failed to act decisively.

Despite the government’s decision to repeal some levies, Nana B pointed out that electricity and water tariffs have been increased by 14% and 4%, respectively, leaving Ghanaians worse off.

He further accused the NDC of hypocrisy, noting how they used to hold press conferences by polluted rivers while in opposition, but now opt for luxury hotel settings, prioritizing image over substance.

Nana B also defended the NPP’s achievements, particularly emphasizing the gold-for-oil program initiated under former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which he credits for stabilizing the cedi.

Despite his criticisms, Nana B remained confident about the NPP’s future.

“We are listening, learning, and preparing to bounce back,” he assured, signaling the party’s readiness for a political resurgence in the coming years.
