Former President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to resolve the persistent power fluctuations affecting the North East Region, promising a reliable electricity supply through major energy infrastructure investments.

Speaking during his ‘Thank You Tour’ on Friday, June 13, Mahama assured residents that the ongoing power disruptions, crippling businesses and burdening households, would soon be a “thing of the past.”

“I’m aware of the persistent power fluctuations in the eastern zones of this region,” he said. “These outages are crippling small businesses and affecting households.”

Key Initiatives Highlighted:

Mahama outlined a multi-pronged strategy aimed at stabilizing power supply in the region:

Looping of Pwalugu Substation
The planned enhancement of the Pwalugu substation will create alternative electricity flow paths, reducing the risk of outages. “This will stabilise the supply and prevent the kind of outages you’re currently facing,” Mahama explained.

Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam
Work will also continue on the Pwalugu Dam, which serves triple functions:

  1. Flood control
  2. Hydropower generation
  3. Irrigation for agriculture
Mahama emphasized that this project reflects a holistic approach to regional development.

Mini-Grids and Solar Expansion
In line with the 2025 national energy strategy, the former President said his government will expand access through mini-grids and solar installations in off-grid communities.
These efforts support Ghana’s goal of universal energy access and the integration of renewable energy.

“I can assure you, very soon, your power fluctuation will be a thing of the past,” Mahama stated confidently, drawing applause from residents hopeful for change.
