former President John Dramani Mahama

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has announced that starting from the 2022/2023 academic year, Public Colleges of Education in the country shall implement the admissions Quota System.

The policy gives the institution strict instruction as to the number of students they can admit per academic year which certainly has dramatically cut down the intake.

This policy the former President Mahama administration scraped while discontinuing the Trainees’ allowances and substituting it for the student loans system.

The initiative by the then NDC government was to help expand infrastructures to aid the admission of more students.

However, the then-opposition NPP led by now-President Akufo-Addo made political capital out of it instigating the students and Ghanaians to vote out the government whiles promising them bringing back the Trainees’ allowance.

Six years into the President Akufo-Addo led NPP government, they have brought the Quota system.
