President John Dramani Mahama has referred a detailed report on electoral violence from the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for legal review and further action.

The report, compiled by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, highlights incidents of violence, including shootings and clashes between party supporters and security forces, that marred the electoral processes.

The violence resulted in the deaths of eight people in 2020 and three more in 2024, alongside several injuries across various constituencies.

The IGP’s report was submitted following a directive from President Mahama, who had vowed to address past electoral injustices shortly after assuming office.

The move comes amid persistent calls from civil society groups for accountability and justice for victims of politically motivated violence.

By engaging the Attorney General, the President aims to ensure that appropriate legal steps are taken to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent future occurrences.

The Presidency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the rule of law and reinforcing public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions through transparency and justice.
