President John Mahama has announced a major policy move, his government will fully refund academic fees for all first-year tertiary students enrolling in September 2025.
Speaking at Jackson Park in Koforidua during his nationwide “Thank You Tour” on Sunday, July 20, the President emphasized that the necessary funds have already been secured to implement the refund.
“In September, the new batch of first-year students who will be enrolled, money is ready to be reimbursed for their academic fees,” he declared to loud applause.
The initiative falls under the government’s flagship ‘No Fees Stress’ policy, designed to eliminate financial obstacles for students, especially those from low-income backgrounds.
It is a central component of the administration’s broader focus on education equity and human capital development.
Mahama reiterated that the move is part of his campaign promise to ease the burden on families and ensure wider access to tertiary education.
In a further show of commitment to education, he disclosed that the government had cleared six months of unpaid allowances owed to nursing and teacher trainee students.
“We have also paid six months’ arrears of allowances for students at the nursing and teacher training colleges,” he added. “We promise that they will receive their allowances every month.”
The announcements drew widespread support from attendees and further reinforced the government’s promise to prioritize youth empowerment through education.
