President John Dramani Mahama has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare their assets by July 15, 2025, in line with constitutional requirements.
He gave the directive during an orientation and training Programme for MMDCEs held in Accra on Wednesday, June 18. “I wish to remind you that you are among the officeholders required to declare your assets. I expect that by July 15, every one of you would have done so,” President Mahama stated.
Under Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, public officers are required to declare their assets upon assuming office and again after leaving office.
Since taking office in January 2025, President Mahama has consistently emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability. According to him, asset declaration is a key tool in fighting corruption and restoring public trust.
He also noted that all his appointees have so far complied with this legal obligation and warned that those who fail to meet the deadline will face sanctions, just as others have already done. “This is a non-negotiable part of our commitment to good governance,” he added.
