President John Dramani Mahama has nominated a new batch of Ambassadors and High Commissioners to represent Ghana in key international capitals, signaling a strategic diplomatic reshuffle.
The nominations, announced through a statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, come after consultations with the Council of State. They aim to project Ghana’s renewed foreign policy direction and strengthen bilateral ties under the current administration.
Among the high-profile nominees are:
- Mona Helen Kabuki Quartey – Ambassador to Italy. A former minister and renowned economist.
- Dr. Kwame Ampofo – Ambassador to Hungary. An expert in the energy sector.
- Paul Evans Aidoo – High Commissioner to Kenya. A seasoned politician.
- Magnus Kofi Amoatey – Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
- Atta Kojo Choi – Ambassador to South Korea. A naturalized Ghanaian who moved to the country at age 14.
Other nominees include:
- Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna – Namibia
- Kenneth Akibate – Burkina Faso
- Said Saleh Sinare – Saudi Arabia
The appointments are expected to go through parliamentary vetting and approval in accordance with constitutional procedures.
Once confirmed, these envoys will play critical roles in advancing Ghana’s interests abroad, from trade and investment to diplomacy and global cooperation.
