Mahama mocks Freddie Blay over 275 buses

John Mahama

Former President John Mahama has taken swipe at acting national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay over the purchase of 275 buses for all 275 constituencies for the party.

He mocked Freddie Blay of securing $11 million loan facility from [ads1]Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) to purchase 275 buses, a bank which belongs to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama.

Universal Merchant Bank, formerly Merchant Bank (Ghana) Limited, bank leaders of the NPP accused former President John Mahama of selling to his brother.

The NPP accused Mahama of conspiring with his brother [Ibrahim Mahama] to collapse Merchant bank, and only to turn around to own it (bank) using Fortiz as decoy.

However, Mahama in a tweet is wondering if his brother’s supposed bank, UMB, financed the purchase of Freddie Blay’s buses for the NPP.

He wrote “$11.4 million Freddie Blay buses ahead of NPP election financed by Universal Merchant Bank? I thought Merchant Bank was sold to my brother, Ibrahim? So Ibrahim Mahama’s bank financed the 275 buses for Blay & NPP? LOL!”.

Blay has been criticized for taking steps to fulfil his promise of purchasing the cars after he took delivery of the first batch of 100 minibuses at the Port barely some days to the party’s national delegate’s congress in Koforidua.

He’s contesting to become the substantive national chairman with two other contestants, Stephen Ntim and Dr Amoako Baah.

Blay, who facilitated the purchase of the minibuses, is reported to have made a down payment of 3 million dollars, which constitutes 30% of the total cost of 11.4 million dollars for the 275 cars.
