President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that the government will facilitate, not dominate, the rollout of the 24-Hour Economy initiative.

Speaking at the official launch in Accra on Wednesday, Mahama emphasized that the private sector will drive the programme, while the government plays a supportive, enabling role. “The private sector will lead the 24-Hour Economy programme. Government will facilitate and not dominate,” he said.

Mahama described the government’s financial involvement as catalytic, aimed at stimulating the economy, not controlling it. According to him, state funding will focus on launching the 24-Hour Economy Authority and developing essential infrastructure.

“Any government funding in the 24-Hour Economy programme will be catalytic, serving as seed funding and support for bulk infrastructure,” he added.

The President also outlined plans for enterprise-level financing. He said businesses will access funding through commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and blended finance tools. This structure is designed to keep the programme fiscally sustainable and commercially attractive to investors.

Mahama concluded by stressing that the initiative aims to unlock private capital, stimulate job creation, and extend economic activity beyond traditional working hours, especially in manufacturing, transport, and essential services.
