President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will begin paying road contractors this month to help revive delayed infrastructure projects across Ghana.

Speaking during a meeting with the Council of State on Monday, July 7, President Mahama said the Ministry of Finance has secured funds to clear a significant portion of outstanding debts. The move, he said, aims to bring relief to contractors and speed up stalled roadworks.

“Dedicated financial allocations have been made to settle many of the outstanding certificates. We expect this to help contractors return to site and resume work,” he stated.

The President emphasized that road infrastructure is a key pillar of his administration’s 24-hour economy strategy. He added that restoring progress on road projects will boost regional connectivity and stimulate economic activity.

Contractors and stakeholders in the construction industry have welcomed the announcement, having long demanded action on unpaid claims and abandoned works.

In a related development, President Mahama also bid farewell to Germany’s outgoing Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, at the Jubilee House. He praised the diplomat for his productive four-year term and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Germany.
