President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration will give top priority to locally manufactured products in all government procurement processes, as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s agribusiness sector and industrial base.

Speaking at the launch of the National Agribusiness Dialogue in Accra, President Mahama emphasized the role of government spending in supporting domestic production.

“Because the government is the biggest spender in the economy, these Ghana-made products will be prioritized in procurement. Only when no local option is available will foreign alternatives be considered,” he said.

The initiative, driven through the 24-hour+ Economy Secretariat, includes compiling a detailed list of Ghanaian products, especially agro-processed goods, to be promoted under government contracts.

Mahama noted that this move aligns with the Feed the Industry programme, aimed at transforming Ghana’s agro-processing sector into a sustainable driver of economic growth.

The policy focuses on securing consistent, high-quality supply chains and creating a guaranteed market for local producers.

He described the effort as “central to the agribusiness vision” and a core pillar of the broader 24-hour economy strategy, which seeks to stimulate investment, innovation, and inclusive growth in agriculture and manufacturing.
