President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to reject political, religious, and tribal divisions and instead foster unity to drive national progress.

Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Tuesday, July 1, at the Forecourt of the State House, Mahama emphasized the need for mutual respect, compassion, and healing over hostility.

“Let us reject tribalism, extremism, and political hostility. These are seeds of division we must never let take root in our beloved nation,” he urged.

He encouraged citizens to “build bridges, not barriers,” stressing that Ghanaians are “one people, sharing one land and pursuing one destiny.”

Beyond unity, the President also addressed leadership and public accountability. He reminded public officials, himself included, that holding office is a sacred duty, not a tool for personal gain.

“We must hold leaders, including myself, to the highest standards of integrity and humility. Public office is a sacred trust, not a privilege,” he said.

Mahama reaffirmed his belief in equality before the law, adding, “Even the presidency is not above the law.”

The event drew religious leaders, political figures, civil society groups, and citizens nationwide. It served as both a spiritual gathering and a moment for reflection, calling for national renewal, moral leadership, and lasting peace.
