“The Black Star Marathon has become a part of Ghana’s tourism experience. We now call it the Black Star experience,” Mahama said. “My presence here today is to underscore how important this project is for us.”

The 2025 edition drew athletes from 28 countries, transforming the event into a melting pot of sport and culture. Participants competed in 42km, 21km, and 10km races.

“I’m excited to see such a vibrant international turnout. So many athletes are here from across the world,” he added.

Although Mahama joked that he has never run a marathon himself, “I don’t have the energy to run a marathon”, he praised the dedication and strength of the participants.

The President assured that his government would continue supporting the event, aiming to position it as Africa’s top sports tourism attraction.
