Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu criticizes GoldBod Board and budget plans

Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has questioned the qualifications of individuals chosen to form the GoldBod, Ghana’s new Gold Board.

He believes that those appointed lack the necessary experience and expertise in commodity trading, which could hinder the board’s effectiveness and the management of the country’s gold resources.

In his remarks during a public discussion on the 2025 National Budget, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu also expressed legal concerns about the proposed allowances for Assembly members, asserting that the constitution does not allow public funds to be used for such payments.

Additionally, he raised alarms about the insufficient budget allocated to establish a women’s bank, noting that the amount would barely support the 17 million women in Ghana.

He suggested that a more substantial capital investment was needed for this initiative to have any meaningful impact.

Finally, he called for improved environmental practices in the Ashanti Region to tackle illegal mining and enhance the production of cocoa and timber, which would, in turn, boost the region’s economy.
