Asante Kotoko have clinched their 10th MTN FA Cup title, defeating lower-tier side Golden Kick FC 2-1 in a thrilling final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Forward Kwame Opoku was the hero of the day, netting both goals for the Porcupine Warriors. His decisive brace ensured Kotoko ended the season on a high after missing out on the Ghana Premier League title.
Kotoko started strongly and opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a powerful header from Opoku. But Golden Kick fought back, equalising in the 31st minute through a stunning free-kick by Bless Ege. The teams went into halftime level at 1-1.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the second half, but the game appeared to be heading into extra time. However, dramatically, Kotoko earned a penalty in stoppage time after Golden Kick goalkeeper Kelvin Kofi Saaba fouled Opoku in the box.
Opoku calmly converted from the spot, sealing a hard-fought 2-1 victory for Kotoko and writing his name into club folklore.
With the win, Asante Kotoko not only claim their 10th FA Cup trophy but also secure a spot in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, where they will represent Ghana on the continental stage.
