Kwaku Azar slams CJ for undermining judicial integrity

Legal practitioner Kwaku Azar has taken a hard stance against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, asserting that she is unfit to lead Ghana’s judiciary and should not be shielded from accountability.

In a social media post, the outspoken lawyer questioned the integrity of the Chief Justice, citing reports that she allegedly engaged in private negotiations with the President over Supreme Court appointments.

According to him, such actions undermine the independence of the judiciary and cast serious doubt on her suitability to occupy the highest judicial office.

He argued that no one, including the Chief Justice, should be above removal.

Drawing from past examples, Kwaku Azar recalled how previous commissioners were ousted through legitimate processes, including former CHRAJ boss Lauretta Lamptey and Electoral Commission official Commissioner Osei.

He emphasized that just as those removals were justified, current calls for the Chief Justice’s removal should also be considered if evidence of misconduct exists.

Kwaku Azar’s comments come amid growing public scrutiny of the judiciary and calls for greater transparency and independence in the appointment and conduct of judges.

His post adds to the rising tension surrounding the Chief Justice and the overall credibility of Ghana’s judicial system.
