The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says the standard of coaching in Ghana is poor, and he has never been happy to criticize that.

According to him, he sees it as a persistent weakness in Ghanaian football and will not keep mute until there is improvement.

“I have never, never, never been happy with coaching, and I have not stopped talking about this. When I say coaching standards in Ghana have been poor, I really mean it,” he said when addressing coaches at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Despite the nation’s rich football history and consistent success at youth level, gaps in modern tactical education and structured continuous training for coaches have continued to hinder progress.

Okraku pointed to outdated methods, limited access to elite coaching education, and inconsistent development pathways as major setbacks affecting player development and club competitiveness.

The CAF Licence A coaching course kicked off at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The intensive 10-day program will attract elite coaches across the continent, all seeking to earn one of CAF’s highest coaching qualifications.

The CAF Licence A is a critical milestone for coaches aiming to work at top-flight club level and within national team structures.

Participants are undergoing rigorous theoretical and practical sessions, focusing on modern tactical principles, player development, performance analysis, leadership, and match preparation.

The program forms part of the GFA’s broader strategy to address these deficiencies, equipping coaches with modern methods and improved tactical knowledge in coaching.
