Asante Kotoko fought back from a goal down to defeat Hearts of Oak 2-1 and claim their ninth President’s Cup title at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Hamza Issah gave Hearts the lead in the 27th minute after Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara mishandled a cross, allowing Issah to tap into an empty net. Despite pressing for an equaliser, Kotoko went into the break trailing.
The turnaround began shortly after the restart. Peter Amidu Acquah’s run and low delivery forced an own goal off Konadu Yiadom to bring Kotoko level.
Just a minute later, Kwame Poku capitalised on a square pass to score into an empty net, making it 2-1.
Poku nearly added a third in the 74th minute but failed to connect with Albert Amoah’s cross. Hearts responded with urgency, having a goal ruled out for offside before earning a penalty.
However, Emmanuel Amankwah’s spot-kick was saved brilliantly by Camara, who redeemed himself after his earlier error.
Hearts squandered a few late chances, and Kotoko held firm to secure the win and lift the 2025 President’s Cup.
