The 2026 Eastern Region Inter-Schools Sports Competition was thrown into chaos following a violent attack on a student at the event in Koforidua.
The victim, identified as Jerome Appiah, was allegedly attacked by a form two student of New Juaben Senior High School while eating.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect was accompanied by an accomplice, but both fled the scene immediately after the attack, as reported by GhOne.
Jerome Appiah reportedly suffered a deep machete wound to the shoulder and bled profusely.
He was rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital by the police and is currently receiving treatment.
Over 50 schools from the region are participating in football, athletics, volleyball, handball, and basketball disciplines at the Youth Resource Center in Koforidua.
The week-long event, which kicked off on Monday, February 2, will be climaxed on Friday, February 13, 2026.
