An aspiring Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Bright Nudokpo-Honu has described the crisis at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as “very unfortunate” a result of “bad leadership”.

“What is happening in KNUST is very unfortunate and is as a result of what we call bad leadership.” – Mr. Nudokpo-Honu in a facebook post.

[ads1]According to the youth activist, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Obiri Danso, “seems to lack innovative measures in addressing the current challenges confronting the institution” and must do the honourable thing by resigning before he destroys the reputation of such a great institution”

The University was today shut down indefinitely following a protest by students of the over what they described us brutalities on them by the university authorities. The protest which started peacefully turn violent leaving millions of properties destroyed.

The students accuse the university authorities of preventing from engaging in any social activities and allowing the school security harass them anytime they were involved in certain activities.

The brawl started after the school authorities accused the students of engaging in illegal ‘morale’ activities which included drumming during a hall week celebration.

The campus of KNUST has not been as calm as it used to be in after some all-male halls (Katanga and Unity) were converted into mixed ones.

Yesterday, the students’ leadership served notice they will embark on the demonstration and also called on all students to boycott lectures following the arrest and detention of some group of students over the drumming issue.

Parents of the detained students have also reportedly besieged the KNUST Police

The demonstration which started peacefully ended with violence and destruction of properties promoting the university authorities to call for military and police.

Obiri Danso the VC seems to lack innovative measures in addressing the current challenges confronting the institution. Obiri Danso must do the honourable thing by resigning before he destroys the reputation of such a great institution. Again I don’t know why the police should brutalize innocent students which has reportedly led to the memory lose of one of the students. If things persist, we would have no other option than to mobilize the public against the leadership of the institution.
