Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has publicly criticized former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for refusing to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), despite multiple summonses. Speaking at a press briefing on June 2, Agyebeng questioned why Ofori-Atta believes he deserves special treatment.
“What’s so special about Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta?” Agyebeng asked. “He thinks he can lie in bed somewhere and claim he’s unwell without providing any proof? Even a former president complied with our process, so why not him?”
The OSP had previously summoned Ofori-Atta about a pending investigation. Agyebeng stated that since January 2025, the former minister has failed to provide proper medical documentation, despite claiming illness.
“He’s not the only one seeking medical treatment abroad,” Agyebeng noted. “We know what legitimate medical records look like signed, reviewed, and issued by a hospital authority.”
Ofori-Atta’s legal team had proposed a virtual interview and submitted a biopsy report, but the Special Prosecutor rejected this move as a last-minute attempt to stall proceedings. Agyebeng accused the former minister of acting in “utter bad faith,” pointing out that he failed to notify the OSP when his scheduled March surgery was canceled.
“Since March 21, he knew there was no surgery and did nothing. That’s why we’re ending the grace period and officially declaring him wanted,” Agyebeng stated.
As a result, the OSP has initiated extradition proceedings and issued an Interpol Red Notice. Criminal charges are expected soon.
“No one is beyond the reach of the OSP,” Agyebeng emphasized. “We will take all necessary legal steps to ensure Ken Ofori-Atta faces justice.”
