The Appointments Committee of Parliament has suspended the vetting of Supreme Court nominee Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo following the submission of a petition challenging his elevation.
Justice Ackaah-Boafo was expected to appear before the Committee today, June 19, as part of the approval process for his nomination to Ghana’s highest court.
He is one of seven justices of the Court of Appeal nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for promotion to the Supreme Court, and was set to be the last to be vetted.
While the specific details of the petition remain undisclosed, sources within Parliament say the decision to postpone the vetting is to allow time for a thorough examination of the claims made against him.
The Committee is expected to announce a new date for the vetting after reviewing the petition and determining the next course of action.
