The presidency now saves GH₵120,000 every month after President John Dramani Mahama scrapped all satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House.

According to the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the directive is part of the administration’s broader effort to eliminate wasteful spending across government institutions.

In an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Ofosu Kwakye revealed that a review of operational expenses uncovered multiple paid subscriptions including DStv, active in various presidential offices.

“When we came to Jubilee House, there were numerous satellite subscriptions in use alongside free-to-air channels. After auditing the costs, we found we were spending around GH₵120,000 monthly on TV subscriptions alone. President Mahama has put an end to that,” he stated.

He criticized the previous spending, calling it unjustifiable, especially when smaller communities face critical needs that could be resolved with a fraction of that amount.

“Some communities can’t access clean water because of a broken pump that costs just GH₵1,000 to fix. Yet we were spending over GH₵100k monthly just to watch TV. That’s unacceptable.”

The move, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and responsible governance.
