Sir Moses Avadetsi, a Unit Committee Member for the Mantseman Electoral Area in Ashaiman, in collaboration with Jubilee Academy and Computer School, will host the tenth edition of the Jubisco Inter-School Football Championship in Ashaiman.
The two-day event, which is slated for March 12-13 at Ecuador Park, will see six private schools within the community battle for honors.
The participating schools are Jubilee Academy and Computer School, Elis International School, and Calvary School Complex.
The others are Teresa Memorial School, Brighter Light International School, and Savior Basic School.
Speaking ahead of the event, Hon. Moses Avadetsi highlighted the importance of sports to pupils, emphasizing that it creates a platform for them to showcase their talents while promoting unity among schools in Ashaiman and beyond.
“We are keen on keeping learners briefly away from the classroom and creating a platform for them to showcase their talents and dexterity in football and also promote unity among schools in Ashaiman and beyond,” he told AwakeNews.
Explaining further, he said the event also “creates an avenue for scouting players and promoting player development as well.”
He underscored the challenges they face as organizers, stressing that for the past ten years, the numbers of participating schools have not been encouraging, as schools within Ashaiman show zero interest by school owners for sports, harnessing of football talents, and development.
He therefore called on private school owners to rethink and consider the need for sports development in Ashaiman and beyond.
Speaking of the prizes, the winner will receive a trophy, medals, and certificates, while the runners-up will also receive medals, certificates, and opportunities to justify themselves and join top-notch football academies in Ghana.
“We hope in the coming years, more schools will join and take part to boost healthy competition, unity, football talent development, and the creation of opportunities for young talented boys and girls from Ashaiman.
We appeal to every well-meaning Ghanaian, be it sports enthusiasts, coaches, scouts, or corporate agencies, among others, for meaningful collaboration, assistance, and sponsorship to expand this tournament,” he added.
