National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has strongly denied any involvement in illegal mining activities, following reports linking him and another party executive to unauthorized operations.
In a Facebook post, Yamin responded to claims by a group identified as Concerned Small-Scale Miners, who accused him and NDC Vice Chairman Yakubu Abanga of supporting an alleged illegal taskforce operating at mining sites.
“I want to put on record that I have no hand in the said allegations being leveled at me,” Yamin stated.

His denial comes in the wake of a directive from Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, asking the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the pair over their alleged roles in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
In a letter dated July 15, Dr. Ayine cited credible reports and mounting public concern about ongoing violations of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703). The letter emphasized the government’s commitment to combating illegal mining and instructed EOCO to interrogate Yamin and Abanga under its mandate.
Despite the development, Yamin insists he has never engaged in mining or sanctioned any taskforce using his name.
“I am not part of any galamsey taskforce, neither have I been invited to contribute ideas on how to tackle illegal mining,” he clarified.
“I do not mine, I do not own any concession, and if anyone is using my name, they must be arrested.”
He urged the public, especially small-scale miners, to channel their grievances to the appropriate state institutions rather than dragging his name into their issues.
