John Mahama failed cocoa farmers in the country- Twifo Ati-Morkwa MP

The Member of Parliament for Twifo Ati-Morkwa Constituency, Hon Abraham Dwumah Odoom has stated that New Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led former President John Dramina Mahama failed cocoa farmers in Ghana for the past eight years in government.

Speaking to the media at the district capital Twifo Praso, he said, the country cocoa production was less than 300,000 metric tons under previous government the then former President Jerry John Rawlings [ads1]administration.

He explained that, the then administration led by former President Kuffour in 8 years government at that time introduced a new program called ”Cocoa Hi-Tech Scheme” which helped the country get One Million metric tons of cocoa for the first time in the history of Ghana.

According to the MP, selected 80 districts in the country were undertook a Cocoa Hi-Tech Scheme program which improved cocoa production by National Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He also added that, NDC Government which took over, failed to stabilize the cocoa production rather reduced country cocoa production metric tons beans from 1million to 700,000 metric tons,
“If your father left you articulator, you don’t sell it to buy Hisce, small car”. He said

He accused the NDC of distributing the free fertilizers to only their party members.

The previous administration by former President Mahama borrowed 1.8 billion dollars syndicate loan to buy 800,000 metric tons of cocoa beans, only 600,000 metric tons cocoa beans were bought.

The lawmaker query the past government about remaining of the money.
“Am questioning the previous government by the former President Mahama government, where is the remaining money left when they living office?”

He continued that the Nana Addo government will improve the cocoa industry by helping the farmers to get fertilizer and educating them on the proper maintenance of their farmers including proper application other chemicals.
