Ghanaian actor, comedian, and spoken word artist Jeffrey Nortey has revealed that he fasts ahead of church performances, viewing them as sacred duties rather than entertainment gigs.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, Nortey explained that ministering at church events demands a different level of spiritual and professional preparation.
“I’ve performed on church stages with bigger crowds than some secular ones. Even at CYC, we fill the place,” he said.
While both gospel and secular events pay, Jeffrey said the motivation behind church gigs goes beyond money.
“It’s not about the cash. Performing at church is my tithe, my contribution to God’s kingdom. It’s fulfilling.”
He emphasized the gravity of getting things right during church performances.
“If I’m on a comedy stage and make a mistake, no big deal. But if I misquote a Bible verse, I risk passing the wrong message. That’s why I fast before church shows.”
Jeffrey summed it up clearly:
“On the gospel stage, you do it for the soul. On the entertainment stage, it’s for the show.”
Known for his talent across comedy, drama, and poetry, Jeffrey Nortey continues to rise in Ghana’s creative scene. His upcoming one-man show, 3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey, takes place June 14 at the National Theatre, where he’ll perform three of his distinct characters in one night.
