The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has granted provisional clearance for the opening of the Ave Dakpa Crocodile Resort following a high-level inspection of the facility.
The visit was undertaken in response to a formal petition submitted by the Ave Dakpa Traditional Council to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), requesting official approval to operationalise the site as a tourism destination.
Hon. Gunu, accompanied by the Acting Volta Regional Director of the GTA, Madam Roberta Okine Fumador, led a delegation to assess the resort’s readiness and its potential to boost eco-tourism in the region. After a thorough inspection, the team expressed satisfaction with the facility and granted provisional clearance for the resort to open its gates to the public, subject to the completion of final regulatory requirements.
The development has been welcomed by residents and local authorities, who see the project as a major milestone for tourism-led development in the Akatsi North District.

Leaders of the Ave Dakpa Traditional Council, led by Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V and supported by Torgbui Awuku, received the delegation and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the site as a safe, well-managed, and culturally significant attraction for both domestic and international visitors.
They noted that the crocodile resort has the potential to create employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses, and place Ave Dakpa firmly on Ghana’s tourism map.
The inspection was attended by key district officials, including the District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, Hon. Bless Kojo Akatamani, Presiding Member Hon. Patrick Ahiabu, and Assembly Member Hon. C.C. Ahiagbede.
Several assembly members and a cross-section of residents were also present, expressing optimism that the initiative would accelerate socio-economic growth in the area.
Officials of the Ghana Tourism Authority indicated that they will continue to work closely with the Traditional Council and management of the facility to ensure the resort meets all safety, environmental, and tourism standards required for full certification.
When completed, the Ave Dakpa Crocodile Resort is expected to offer a unique wildlife and cultural experience, strengthening the Volta Region’s position as an emerging eco-tourism hub.
