Ken Ofori-Atta, Former Finance Minister

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been added to INTERPOL’s Red Notice list. Ghana’s Special Prosecutor (OSP) requested as part of an ongoing corruption probe.

The notice, published on June 5, 2025, aims to secure his provisional arrest and return. Ofori-Atta, 65, is currently believed to be in the United States receiving medical treatment.

He is wanted for “Using Public Office for Profit.” INTERPOL describes him as a Ghanaian male, born on November 7, 1959, in Accra. He stands 1.7 metres tall, with black hair and eyes, and speaks English and Twi.

OSP Steps Up Pressure

This is the second time the OSP has taken action to apprehend the former minister. Earlier this year, he was declared a “fugitive from justice” for ignoring official summonses. The investigations relate to the National Cathedral project and a controversial revenue deal with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).

Red Notice Filed in Real Time

At a press briefing on June 2, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that the Red Notice request was submitted just 30 minutes before the announcement. He emphasized that international cooperation is vital to bringing Ofori-Atta to justice.
