I’m very, very confident we’ll beat Niger – Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has assured Ghanaians that their upcoming game against Niger on Monday, September 9, 2024, will end in Ghana’s favor, as they are considered the favorites.

The Black Stars previously lost their opening match of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola in Kumasi.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game in Morocco, at the Stade Municipal Berkane, against Niger, Otto Addo said “I never thought we would lose this [Angola] game. But in football now, there is no weak opponent. We saw it last time against Angola – the way the game looked – anything can happen.”

Emphasizing the need for the team to stay focused throughout the game, the coach said “this game, we are surely the favorites and I am very, very confident that we will win,” adding that, “But in football, anything can happen. We have to be focused, we have to be concentrated, we have to do our job. Then the probability that we win is very, very high.”

He explained that the Black Stars’ opponents, Niger, are a strong team and will not be easy to defeat, but added that his side will do everything to secure victory.

“They have good players and they play well together as a team. They have good strikers, they defend very well, and tactically, they are well-educated. It’s not going to be easy, but I’m sure that if we do our best and create as many chances as we did against Angola, we will force the luck to come back to us.”
