I’m a product of TVET, hence my support for its development – Gunu

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has reaffirmed his strong commitment to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), describing himself as a direct beneficiary of the system and an advocate for its expansion.

Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony at the Avenormpe Technical School in the Akatsi South Municipality, Mr. Gunu said his personal background in technical education continues to shape his passion for the development of TVET institutions across the Volta Region.

The sod-cutting exercise was undertaken by the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure at the school.

Addressing students and staff, the Regional Minister condemned the persistent stigmatization of technical and vocational education, noting that such perceptions undermine national development and discourage young people from pursuing skills-based careers.

He particularly encouraged female students to take advantage of the opportunities available under the TVET framework, stressing that the current government under John Dramani Mahama has placed renewed emphasis on skills training as a pathway to employment and self-reliance.

Mr. Gunu assured the school community of the government’s commitment to strengthening TVET education through improved infrastructure, equipment, and policy support, urging students to remain focused and confident in their chosen career paths.

The event was attended by local government officials, education stakeholders, traditional leaders, teachers, and students, who welcomed the intervention as a major boost to technical education in the municipality.
