I’ll never say I’m only a driver’s mate in challenging times – Jane Naana

NDC’s Vice Presidential candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang yesterday at her unveiling took a jibe at the flag bearer of the ruling NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang told the crowd of NDC supporters at the UPSA Auditorium that if the NDC is elected and they are facing problems in government she’ll not claim to be only a “driver’s mate.”

Dr. Bawumia dodged bullets from Ghanaians by claiming he is just an assistant President Akufo Addo and has no authority to make decisions that affected the lives of Ghanaians. He asked Ghanaians to give him the driver’s seat by voting for him as President.

“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities,” Bawumia told NPP supporters on February 7.

Addressing attendees at the her official unveiling ceremony at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Jane Naana said “My output, going forward, by the Grace of God, will continue to demonstrate what the world knows already. That women are also capable of high achievements; that we do so with that reservoir of strength, determination, and mental acuity that only those who are noble and far-sighted can comprehend and contend with”.

Expressing how she would be accountable, loyal and kind to the NDC leader, John Mahama in the face of difficulties, she said, “I will share in our collective successes and, share responsibility for our setbacks if any. And, at the time of reckoning, HE John Dramani Mahama, I will not, in the advancement of self-serving ambition, declare to the world that I was only the driver’s mate.”
