The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Sports, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, has emphatically stated that Ghana will come top of their group in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance as they look forward to building on their previous World Cup performances, having made it to the quarterfinals in 2010.
With a talented squad led by Otto Addo, the Black Stars will be aiming to make a deep run in the tournament after their last participation in 2022 in Qatar ended with a group stage exit.
According to Hon. Norgbey, who doubles as the MP for Ashaiman, he believes Ghana has been preparing well and is ready for the task ahead.
He stressed that the technical team should augment the team and also pave the way for new recruits to be included in the team.
“Well, I don’t know why I have this confidence that Ghana will top that particular group, Panama, England, and Croatia. Looking at the preparations and other things that we are doing, if we are able to sustain it until the game time, and we are able to beef up the team as well, due to injuries, and also recruit new players to the team, I am sure Ghana will top the group,” Hon. Norgbey told Citi Sports.
When quizzed to settle the outcome when Ghana faces England in their second group game, Hon. Norgbey reiterated that Ghana will pull a surprise over the Three Lions, with their worst result being a draw.
“I have the confidence that Ghana will beat England, which will be a surprise to everyone. Our worst result will be a draw,” he added.
Ghana has been drawn into Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia respectively.
The four-time AFCON winners will open their campaign with Panama on June 17; they will come up against 1966 winners England in their second game on June 27 and have a final group match against 2018 runners-up Croatia on June 27.
However, with less than 120 days left for the World Cup to kick off, Ghana, as part of their preparations, will test their might against Austria, Germany, and Mexico between March and May.
