I Have Been Paying Rent in Accra Since 1963 – Paa George Reveals

Legendary Ghanaian actor Paa George has made a shocking revelation of how he has always paid rent as a tenant in his over sixty years of residing in Accra.

Paa George remains one of the most talented actors and longest-serving screen personalities, having begun his acting career in 1963.

According to him, his decision to become an actor was driven by passion and love, though they earned little as income.

Speaking in an interview on Max FM’s Drive Time, the actor disclosed how, after years of gracing our screens with his talent, he can’t boast of his own house, adding that he has been paying rent to landlords and landladies since 1963.

“Currently I rent a place to lay my head. I don’t have a place on my own. How much do we even earn? We work because of the passion for acting. It is a room in the family house I boast of. I’ve stayed in Accra since 1963; I’ve always been renting until now,” he stated.

He emphasized that, as pacesetters, what they earned after being on set was a pittance to cater for his family.

“We the pacesetters in the movie industry earned peanuts; it was later that we saw improvements, and by then we had families to cater for,” he said.

Paa George further explained that the little he has saved for the purpose of building his own place, as a father who prioritizes education for a bright future for his children, is the same money he has used to cater for his children at tertiary.

Paa George gained prominence through the popular ‘Concert Party,’ where he performed alongside notable names such as Agya Ntow, Lord Bob Okala, and Appiah Agyekum.

In the 2000s, he gained renewed popularity in the Ghanaian movie industry, starring in numerous movies with actors such as Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, Kyeiwaa, and Bill Asamoah, among others.
