Huime-Agordome Basic School to Get Major Renovation Boost in Volta Region

Huime-Agordome Basic School in the Volta Region is set to receive a major facelift after a visit by Mr. Akonta Felix Akakpo, also known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, who assessed the deteriorating condition of infrastructure at the school.

During the visit on Tuesday, February 10, 2025, it was revealed that nine classroom blocks currently in a poor state would be renovated and upgraded to meet modern educational standards.

Estimates indicate that between 350 and 400 bags of cement will be required to complete the renovation works across the campus.

The Headmaster of the school, Hon. Seth Kwasi Abelia, welcomed the intervention and disclosed that the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) had already mobilised GH¢10,000 to support the project.

Mr. Akakpo, expressing concern about the learning environment, assured school authorities that work would commence promptly.

“This is no small task, but we will not waste time because there are many development projects to undertake for our people. Work will start within the next two weeks. I will provide the concrete mixer, chippings, sand, and an initial 100 bags of cement. Our children deserve better,” he stated.

He further tasked the Assembly Member for the area to mobilise community members to support the initiative to ensure speedy completion.

The project has also attracted support from notable old students of the school, including Torgbui Akli Akussoun and the National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, who have pledged to contribute towards the renovation efforts.

School authorities highlighted the urgent need for the intervention, revealing that some classrooms are severely overcrowded, with the Form Three class accommodating more than 80 students.

The renovation is expected to improve teaching and learning conditions, reduce congestion, and provide a more conducive environment for both pupils and teachers.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts by stakeholders and the Ghana Education Service to enhance infrastructure and educational delivery in underserved communities within the region.
