High Electricity Tariffs Threaten Survival of Small Businesses – Hairdresser

A hairdresser has raised concerns over the rising cost of electricity, saying the situation is severely affecting the operations and profitability of small businesses.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the hairdresser recounted an encounter with officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) who visited her shop and informed her that she owed an electricity bill of GHC 3,000.

She expressed surprise at the claim, insisting that she does not owe such an amount.

According to her, as a small-scale hairdresser, the cost of electricity is already placing significant pressure on her business, making it difficult to operate effectively and earn meaningful profit.

“The cost of electricity is not allowing us to work effectively. The last time ECG officials came to my shop, they told me my bill was GHC 3,000. I am only a hairdresser and I don’t owe electricity,” she said.

She added that the continuous increase in electricity tariffs was gradually eroding the profits of many small businesses, particularly those that rely heavily on power to operate their equipment.

The hairdresser therefore appealed to authorities to review electricity tariffs and address billing concerns to ease the burden on small business operators across the country.
